A day after Logan Middle School had to postpone in-person classes for two days another school system just over the Mississippi River is doing the same.

La Crescent-Hokah Public Schools are “pausing” in-person learning for K-12 students for six school days, starting Friday.

In a letter sent to students’ families, the school said quickly escalating COVID-19-related absences for both students and staff have led to the pause.

“Administration considered a shorter amount of time, but ultimately with the health and safety of students and staff in mind, the decision is to “pause” for a full week,” the letter read.

All other activities will also be cancelled, including practices, childcare and other group activities used by the facilities.

Students will have this Friday off, while staff will come prepare for distance learning all next week.

The school also noted in the letter it understands how difficult this may be on some families.

The school is offering free tests to any PreK-12 students during school hours, though appointments are limited. Other ways to get tested can be found on the La Crosse County Health Department page here.

The letter was signed by Gary Kuphal, Acting Superintendent; Steve Smith, Secondary School Principal; Josh Mallicoat, Secondary School Assistant Principal/Activities Director; Jeff Copp, Elementary School Principal; Beth Theede, Community Education Director
