Zoning change for nursing home back on table this week for La Crosse committees
A proposed zoning change for a south La Crosse nursing home will come back before city committees this week.
The plan to rezone the Bethany Lutheran Home’s Riverside Transitional Care facility on South 7th Street is back on the agenda for the City Plan Commission on Monday and for the council’s Judiciary & Administration (J&A) Committee on Tuesday.
The council voted in October to delay action on the matter for a month.
Both meetings take place at the Southside Neighborhood Center and online.
The Plan Commission meeting takes place at 4 p.m. (agenda and video info here). The J&A meets at 6 p.m. (agenda/video).
Some neighbors of Bethany Lutheran have objected to a proposed four-story building on the site, out of concern that even taller buildings would be allowed under new zoning.
Bethany and neighbors have been negotiating deed restrictions for the property.
Bethany officials say the purpose of the taller building would be to provide more single rooms to residents, so they wouldn’t have to double up in its current facility.
