Before COVID-19 shut down most air travel early in 2020, the La Crosse Airport had recorded 12 straight months of passenger levels above 7000 people.

In May, the airport saw 7000 passengers in one month for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.  That number compares to only 821 passengers for May of last year.

The La Crosse Airport usually sees its highest passenger levels of the year from March through October.

The total passengers for 2021 in La Crosse now exceed 25,000, a level which was reached by April in 2019.

Airport director Ian Turner says the 72-hundred passengers in May compares to 88-hundred during the same month two years ago.

The May figures represent a 17-hundred passenger increase over April, and was roughly nine times higher than the passenger total from May of 2020.
