Alcohol factor in Vernon County rollover at 3 a.m. Jan. 1

Alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash around 3 a.m. Jan. 1 in Vernon County.

A truck crossed the centerline, hit the embankment and flipped, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office. Someone driving by noticed the truck and helped the 34-year-old driver from Viroqua, and 32-year-old passenger of Westby, out of the vehicle.

Both were taken to the hospital for treatment. No other updates on their health were given.

The accident happened of Highway 56, just east of Cook Hill Road in Viroqua, Wis.

The sheriff’s office says alcohol was a factor and charges for the driver will be referred to the county’s district attorney for “injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.”

The incident remains under investigation.
