Early voting heavy in La Crosse County

One-fourth of the registered voters in La Crosse County have already cast ballots for the November election, according to the county clerk’s office.

Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer says 20,000 ballots have been returned to election clerks in the county, two weeks before the official election day, representing a 26 per cent turnout already.

Dankmeyer has received over 29,000 requests for the absentee ballots, so that means 67 per cent of them have been filled out and returned.

Tuesday was the first day for early in-person voting in Wisconsin, and the clerk’s office counted at least 300 voters during the early hours in Onalaska, and about 200 in Shelby.

Dankmeyer expects to have more complete numbers for Tuesday’s first-day turnout sometime on Wednesday.
