Feed truck vs Amish buggy accident leaves man with critical injuries

An 18-year-old Amish man was taken by ambulance to Gundersen Health Systems of La Crosse with life-threatening injuries from an accident Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened on State Hwy. 27, north of Traastad Road in the town of Franklin around 1:19 p.m. Sept. 10, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.

James Mickelson, 57, of Cashton was driving a tandem axle feed truck north on Hwy. 27. Levi Stutzman, 18, was heading the same direction in a buggy. The Sheriff’s Office said a collision occurred, and Stutzman was ejected into the northbound ditch. He was transported to the hospital by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.

Mickelson was not hurt in the crash. The incident is under investigation.
