Republican lawmakers in Wisconsin are asking Governor Tony Evers to get more money to people who have been jobless for weeks because of the coronavirus.

At a La Crosse news conference, area legislators Tony Kurtz and Loren Oldenburg said that more than 100-thousand workers in the state are waiting for their unemployment claims to be approved by the Department of Workforce Development.

Kurtz says this is something the governor has the authority to do.

He and Oldenburg say about $280 million hasn’t been paid out yet from federal relief sent to Wisconsin, and they argue that the Badger State is lagging behind almost every other state in getting claims processed.
