History museum study delayed because of virus

The coronavirus has messed up the present and the future for many people, and now it’s interfering with the past in La Crosse.

A report on the possible demand for a La Crosse history museum has been delayed because of the virus.

The city task force on the museum project was told by UW-L researchers on Thursday that school cancellations due to COVID-19 have deprived the research team of volunteer help from area students.

A rough draft of the research could be presented to the task force in July.

But based on survey responses they have so far, the researchers say a majority of people surveyed like the museum idea.

There’s also concern that because of widespread spending cuts at La Crosse City Hall, the city doesn’t have much money to support the museum plans.

Plans for a historic and cultural museum were announced at La Crosse City Hall in December of 2017.

A task force was formed shortly afterward, and that group has scouted possible locations in La Crosse for a museum.
