La Crosse colleges make plans to bring people back for fall
La Crosse’s three colleges are getting ready to open their doors again for business.
The leaders of UW-L, Viterbo, and Western Tech have issued a joint statement, saying the campuses are considering now-common precautions for bringing people back to school buildings.
On March 11th, the state university was one of the first institutions in the area to announce changes and shutdowns because of coronavirus.
At the time, UW-L had planned to have on-line classes for just two weeks, but that eventually changed to closing the campus entirely.
The “shared statement” says the virus is a “long-term issue requiring long-term focus and action” involving the use of face coverings and social distancing in classes.
UW-L chancellor Joe Gow even expects the dorms to reopen, arguing that the university can’t control off-campus student housing, so dorm living will resume pretty much as usual, perhaps with more cleaning.
Gow says the three colleges are hoping the state will allow them to start class before September 1st.
