Snowfall record from 1909 shattered in La Crosse

No doubt about it, La Crosse has just been through its biggest snowstorm of the season.

Between 5-10 inches of snow were reported in La Crosse County on Sunday, by the National Weather Service.

A Feb. 9 record was shattered with 7.9 inches at the La Crosse Regional Airport. The previous record, set in 1909, was 4.4 inches.

That 10-inch total was at the weather service office.

That more than doubled the previous daily high for this winter — four inches in early November.

Several spots in southern Minnesota recorded at least 10 inches.

The lowest reports, of an inch or two, came from towns well south of La Crosse, including Fennimore and Elkader.
