The head of UW-La Crosse has the lowest pay of the 13 chancellors in the University of Wisconsin System, despite being in charge of the seventh-largest campus.

All 13 chancellors, including Joe Gow of La Crosse, received 2% pay raises from the Board of Regents last week.

A year ago, Gow was among three chancellors who didn’t get raises.

Gow had been reprimanded for booking a porn star to deliver a campus lecture in November of 2018.

His salary of nearly $229,000 is the lowest among permanent chancellors in the Wisconsin system, compared to nearly $600,000 for the chancellor at UW-Madison.

The legislature is considering a bill to give 2% raises to all employees in the university system.
