Walmart should be getting some money back from La Crosse, as a result of a property tax dispute with City Hall.

Thursday, the city council finance committee approved a legal settlement with the store chain, concerning the value of the Walmart store on Mormon Coulee Road.

The company said the building was only worth $8.5 million, compared to a $10-million assessment by the city, and was being over-taxed.

The city and Walmart now agree on a value of $9.9 million.

The tax refund to Walmart should be around $8000, with a full council vote expected soon.
