Anti-hate signs removed from a La Crosse park after protests

Last month, a La Crosse neighborhood group was granted permission by City Hall to post signs in Weigent Park reading, “Hate Has No Home Here.”

Now, those signs have been removed by the city, along with other signs which were put up as a protest of the original ones.

Park department director Jay Odegaard said the city is looking at legal issues affecting signs placed on park property.

The Weigent neighborhood group was responding to racist graffiti painted on a La Crosse cab company building last February.

Critics of the yard signs have suggested that those signs represent a specific political point of view.
