The call came in to the Sparta Police Department that a man was holding up a female at gunpoint.

Later Sunday, Sparta police said there was no gun.

The department explained the incident on Facebook, the reasoning for a “heavy police presence near Jones Plaza,” around 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

They ended up finding both the man and woman but no gun had been involved and that no one was actually in danger.

Police said multiple officers from Sparta and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Dept. responded to the call, as well as assistance from the Monroe County Communications Center.
