Housing for homeless vets another reason for La Crosse to be proud

La Crosse has many reasons to be proud. Now you can add one more reason to that list. A new apartment complex officially opened in La Crosse this week. But its not just any apartment complex. 15 of the 50 units there are reserved to provide housing for homeless military veterans. That was only possible by a number of groups working together to address the problem and find solutions. Much work has been done in this community to end homelessness, and this is yet another example. The La Crosse Collaborative to End Homelessness set a goal a couple years ago of working to end homelessness among military veterans, and completed that goal in less than 100 days. We have seen the good works of Catholic Charities and others which operate a warming shelter, a place for the homeless to escape winter’s bitter cold. Those who are welcomed there also can get a few toiletries and some clean clothes. La Crosse’s Mayor spoke at the ribbon cutting for the new apartments, saying when it comes to providing affordable housing for our most needy,  La Crosse could stack up our performance against any community in the state. And that really is something to be proud of.
