The La Crosse County child support agency is holding a job fair at the courthouse Wednesday, as a way to help with parents who are behind on payments.

The fair will run from 2-4 p.m. in room 1615.

Jill Sherry, supervisor with the agency, said the job fair is very convenient for participants.

“The employers are ready to meet with job seekers and get to know what their strengths are,” Sherry said. “Some have applications to hand out and others even do interviews on the spot.”

There are several different employers in a wide range of services that participate in the monthly program.

It’s seen as a winning situation for both sides.

“We want to help people who owe money, be able to do that,” Sherry said. “As for the employers they get the needed workforce.”

Sherry added that a change in the program has allowed for these types of events.

“The agency has gone from an enforcement style program, strictly, to providing services for families both emotionally and financially,” she said.

The next job fair is slated for Aug. 14.
