Coulee Region Humane Society takes in dogs found living in grain bin on Iowa farm

When asked to take seven dogs that were found living in a grain bin on an Iowa farm, the Coulee Region Humane Society didn’t hesitate.

The shelter often takes into account their current load before accepting those types of cases.

“We’re the stray holding facility for La Crosse County,” Coulee Region marketing coordinator Taylor Bates said. “We also have to look at our current situation and if we can take care of all of them. Normally we take the animals and just make it work.”

The dogs were found earlier this month on a farm in Lime Springs, Iowa.

Overall, 28 dogs were found on the property. The owner was allowed to keep four, if he adhered to certain conditions.

The shelter is seeking monetary donations to help the dogs receive needed care.

“Mainly just to cover the medical costs,” Bates said. “The dogs that came in will need to get spayed and neutered and a whole list of things before they’re ready for adoption.”

Despite the ordeal, Bates says the dogs seem to be fond of people.
