Plan for more alternate-side parking to help leaf clean-up is opposed by La Crosse council member
Is alternate-side parking really necessary to help La Crosse clean leaves off the street in the fall, or is it just another idea for making money through tickets?
City residents are speaking out against the idea of special parking rules for leaf collection, and that includes city council member Gary Padesky.
Padesky, who serves on the board of public works, doesn’t want parking rules changed specifically for leaf collection.
The alternate-side plan has been proposed as a way to complete the leaf cleanup period in 4 to 5 weeks.
Padesky lobbied to reduce the alternate-side parking period for snow removal during the winter, and he doesn’t want it extended again.
The 2019 plan calls for four weeks of leaf clean-up between mid-October and Thanksgiving, with employees of several city departments assigned to the task.
