After New Year’s Eve celebration, find a ride

There was a time when La Crosse Police Sergeant Tom Walsh could remember that the New Year’s celebration was a long night full of OWI investigations.

Walsh says now, Uber and Lyft are changing that culture.

“I sure think that they are,”  Walsh said. “I’ve heard and talked to people, who indicate that they are using those, that they’ve got the apps and that they’re utilizing them.

“Probably one of the greatest things that we got going here in La Crosse County, with our tavern league, is the use of that ‘safe ride.'”

The Tavern League of Wisconsin offers a free safe-ride cab service from any bar that’s a member.

Walsh says that planning ahead is the easiest way to ensure you get home safely.

There is no required bar close in Wisconsin on New Year’s day.
