Skyrockers getting ready for year-end blowout

The La Crosse Skyrockers show spectators how to shoot fireworks at Pettibone Park

La Crosse’s fireworks experts, the Skyrockers, are banking on better weather for the last night of 2018 than they had last New Year’s Eve. 

Skyrockers president Pat Bonadurer recalled that his group had to call off its traditional midnight fireworks display on top of Grandad Bluff last year, because the ground was too frozen for burying mortars.   

As a result, the early 6 p.m. show became the main show. 

Monday night, Bonadurer promises that both the 6 p.m. and midnight shows will be improved. 

As for the weather, one forecast says temps around midnight on Jan. 31 should be about 20 degrees.  

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse.
