Students at Onalaska High School are taking college classes.

At an estimated cost of $32,700, 19 students are taking classes at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Western Technical College.

“They’re getting college credit for public taxpayer money,” Director of instructional services Roger Fruit said. “If they don’t pass the class, they have to reimburse the district because we’re not paying for classes that kids don’t attend.”

A course at WTC is $150, while at UW-L it’s about $450. In all, 118 credits were approved by a committee for the 19 students.
