As a whole, the Onalaska School District is exceeding expectations based on a state report card.

The Wisconsin DPI released its yearly report cards for every district last week and, with an 80.9, Onalaska is performing well.

Director of Instruction Roger Fruit said, however, they aren’t content or just focusing on their own results.

“We look at schools that are like us,” Fruit said. “We’ve had conversations with districts, ‘What are you doing in this area? How come your scores are, you know, exceeding our scores?'”

Fruit added that the district looks intently at certain aspects of the report card, including closing gaps and overall student achievement.

West Salem and Holmen also are exceeding expectations. La Crosse and Sparta are listed in “meeting expectations.”
