La Crosse police say a K9 officer gets much of the credit for taking down a couple of felons rolling around town with their guns and drugs.

Police arrested 53 year-old Preston D. Allen and 38 year-old Diaunte J. Shields after a traffic stop on the far south side of La Crosse Saturday on Mormon Coulee Road.

Police were responding to reported suspicious activity associated with drug dealing and involving a black Cadillac. They determined the Caddy was sporting a license plate from a mini van.

The K9 team of Officers Trenton Bowe and Zaback got involved in the stop and Zaback sniffed out some drugs from the outside of the car.

Police found a 9 millimeter handgun, what’s believed to be heroin and methamphetamine and over $10,000 in cash.

Allen and Shields face numerous charges.

A statement from police gives an attaboy to Zaback and Bowe: “This is a prime example of the La Crosse Police Department Canine program making La Crosse safer.”
