An Aquinas High School graduate, who’s been on military death row for more than a decade, has been resentenced to life in prison, for the murder of an airman and his wife.

West Salem native Andrew Witt was the only Air Force inmate on military death row at the Leavenworth prison.

The 36-year-old was sentenced to death in 2005 for fatally stabbing Airman Andrew Schliepsiek and his wife Jamie, after he allegedly had made a pass her at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. The airman had threatened to report Witt for the incident.

Witt had joined the Air Force a year after graduating from Aquinas.

The last military execution of an American serviceman happened in 1961.
