City of La Crosse replaces rundown house with new one on 16th

Nearly 20 old houses in La Crosse have been replaced with nice new ones over the last few years, as part of a community improvement project.

The latest completed house, at the corner of 16th and Mississippi, is on the site of what had been a rundown house where drugs had been used.

Gundersen physician Larry Skendzel and his wife Missy are moving in from Michigan.

They are being introduced to the La Crosse culture, as Dr. Skendzel said he enjoyed going to the Mid-West Music Fest this month and likes the scenery.

The city is working with HUD to provide new houses that will encourage families to move into formerly blighted areas.

Seventeen new homes have been built with help from City Hall through 2017.
