Onalaska city council candidate says teachers should be allowed to carry in schools

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

It’s a phrase many have said over the last week in the debate on gun control following the mass school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

Onalaska city council candidate Greg Luce blasted gun free zones.

“There’s no reason you should make these kids a softer target than the kids at the mall or a restaurant,” Luce said Tuesday afternoon on WIZM. “Somebody’s painting a bullseye on these kids’ backs for the sake of pushing their gun-control agenda.”

Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel said he would be in favor of guns being carried by teachers while in school.

Luce said that just makes sense.

“Harden up the target a little bit,” Luce said. “Make the psycho shooter think that, ‘Well, you know, there might be a few people armed in here.’

“But right now they think it’s shooting fish in a barrel.”

Luce added that people carrying guns in schools should be a different conversation than “school security.”

Schimel’s comments were separate from GOP state rep. Jesse Kremer’s legislation, allowing for guns to be carried in a private school.
