Doing real damage to ending homelessness could take $2-3 million

There’s much brighter outlook among those fighting homelessness this week in La Crosse County.

Monday night, the county board voted to set aside $500,000 for the La Crosse Collaborative to End Homelessness.

Kim Cable, with CouleeCap and a county board supervisor, called the funding a huge win but she’s challenging the community to match it.

“(Half a million) is certainly a really great start,” Cable said. “It’s not what we need.

“We do need others to come to the table so we’re hoping these funds that have been set aside by La Crosse County will leverage other funds from the community.”

Cable said the effort needs, possibly, $2 million over the next two or three years to take a real bite out of the county’s homeless issues.
