A plan to renovate La Crosse’s municipal boat harbor got the green light from the city council Thursday for $1.4 million.

The city, however, has been asked by people living at the marina to slow down the remodeling process and not not try to do too many things at once.

Dennis Smalley represented those residents at the council meeting last night:

“We are not a parking lot for boats,” Smalley said. “We’re a registered neighborhood with the city.”

Smalley asked the council to keep the marina the way it is for now.

Possible plans for improving the harbor include building a restaurant or playground, removing existing docks and replacing some old buildings.

About $1.4 million of the amount planned for the renovation would be paid back to city reserve funds through slip fees.
