Murder trial jury might not get to visit alleged crime scene

Alleged highway accident happened in September, while trial will be during December

At murder trials, jurors routinely get to visit the scene of the alleged crime.

But that might not happen in a La Crosse County murder case scheduled for trial in December.

In the last week, attorneys in the Todd Kendhammer case have filed motions over whether the jury will be taken to a county highway where Kendhammer says a metal pipe smashed through his windshield and killed his wife Barbara.

Kendhammer reported the crash in September of last year.

Defense attorneys are objecting to a proposed jury visit to the scene during December, reportedly because weather conditions then may be very different from the day when Kendhammer says the pipe accident happened.

Investigators believe Kendhammer deliberately broke the windshield to cover up evidence that his wife died from domestic abuse, as an autopsy has suggested.

A hearing on the new motions is set for early next month.
