Firm working on designs now offering to do study, which would take month or two

There’s apparently a couple routes the La Crosse Center could take in its $42-million renovation.

During a meeting yesterday, the center board discussed those avenues. Center board member Phil Addis describes what results might come from a proposed study.

“So if it turns out that we would make more money to pay the debt back faster, by doing the larger expansion, we should know that,” Addis said. “If doing the smaller one is more cost effective and gives a greater return, we should know that.”

Before the city council makes a final decision the remodeling plan, a consultant is expected to figure out what the city will get for its money.

The Gensler firm, now working on designs for the project, has offered to do a cost study, which would be completed in a month or two.

Center board president Brent Smith expects the committee to make a final choice in December with a city council vote likely in January.
