Full house at meeting on narrowing of Clinton St.
Bike lanes been part of plan since 2010
It was a packed house at the Black River Beach Neighborhood Center.
Around 100 people showed up to discuss the narrowing of Clinton St., going from four lanes to two and adding a turn lane and bike lanes.
That has been part of the plan since 2010 and approved as part of a bicycle and pedestrian master plan since 2012.
Regardless, north side city council member Andrea Richmond said she wasn’t aware of such plans.
City staff say that the public works board and the city council have approved the $81,000 project several times with amendments.
Some walked out early after Highway Commissioner Ron Chamberlain said the input given probably wouldn’t stop the project.
The plan was supposed to start Monday but was put on hold until mid-Sept., partly because of construction in that area already taking place.
Chamberlain says the project has been contracted out.
