Workers who died on the job are remembered Friday
La Crosse marks Workers Memorial Day for the 33rd time
Toward the end of April every year, people who have lost relatives and friends while they were on the job gather for a special ceremony in La Crosse.
Friday marks the 33rd annual Workers Memorial Day observance at Green Island Park, starting at 5 p.m.
Last year, speakers included the family of a young woman who died in an elevator accident at a Fountain City restaurant.
For this year’s event, local AFL-CIO president Bill Brockmiller says the program will be more open-ended, with audience members invited to speak about the passing of people close to them.
The La Crosse ceremony always includes the planting of white crosses near the ice arena, in memory of people in the area whose deaths were work-related.
