Bradley and Kapanke spoke during event

On a night when the presidential primary season was wrapping up, La Crosse area Republicans were getting ready for the next five months of local campaigns.

The county GOP had a grand opening for its new headquarters in a former Kwik Trip on Rose Street.

Speaking at the event were Former county Rep. chair Julian Bradley, a candidate for the Assembly this year against incumbent Steve Doyle, and former state Senator Dan Kapanke, who is trying to reclaim his post from Democrat Jennifer Shilling. She won in a recall race five years ago.

Kapanke told party members Tuesday that he worries about what will happen if Republicans lose the November elections and if Democrats take actions, such as raising the minimum wage to $15.

Kapanke declared that he’s running for Senate again for the people, not for himself, and the campaign is the best one he’s ever had.

He said, if he returns to Madison, he won’t always agree with other members of his party.

The new headquarters is decorated with signs promoting candidates.
