Randall pleads guilty in murder of Central High student
The 18-year-old faces life in prison
He sat silent for 20 seconds with the rest of his life on the line. 
In court Tuesday to enter a plea for first-degree murder, DeShawn Randall was asked by the judge if he understood the crime, the punishment. Randall said yes.
When asked for his plea in the shooting death of Central High School student George Miller, Randall sat in silence.
His attorney then consulted with Randall, before the 18-year-old finally did plead guilty.
District attorney Tim Gruenke commented on the effect the murder has had on the community.
“Hopefully we can turn something positive out of this,” Gruenke said. “It’s been disturbing that this happened out of, really, groups of people that have been arguing over a lot of nothing.”
Randall faces a life prison sentence for the murder – shooting Miller nine times on Redfield Street on the south side of La Crosse – but he could be released in 20 years. Judge Ramona Gonzalez will sentence him on April 8.
