Public meetings set for Jan. 27-28

The DOT is in the final stages now in determining the transportation future in La Crosse.

A couple of public involvement meetings have been planned for Jan. 27-28 on options for increasing transportation capacity for the area.

The agency says the meetings are for summarizing the recommended strategy packages moving into the environmental study phase. All of the remaining strategies involve some non-road building options, like more bike lanes and additional mass transit.

After that, the determination will be made among options like turning Highway 16 into a six lanes, building a road through the marsh and extending Bainbridge on French Island across the Black River with a new bridge, as well as other things.
