Property taxes shrink statewide

Not that it’s time to call for a property tax victory parade just yet in Wisconsin.  But the state’s notoriously high property taxes have taken a turn for the slightly less painful.  A new report from the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance says the state’s property tax collections as a whole went down last year for the first time in nearly twenty years.  A drop of over two percent.  Beyond that, the group says property taxes as a percent of income is now at the lowest level since 1946.  While many local governments actually did increase their taxes last year, a cut in the tech school portion of your tax bill is what led to the overall decrease.
