First Responders Rescue Addicts Despite Public’s Ambivalence

Last month, La Crosse firemen rescued a man who had climbed to the top of the Cass Street bridge.  A city fire captain says investigators learned that the man probably was doing drugs.  Captain Jeff Schott says he’s seen lots of people do odd or dangerous things under the influence of drugs…but the general public often doesn’t care about those addiction problems, they just care about getting to work and don’t have sympathy for those with addiction issues.

Schott spoke about a local increase in meth production and possession to the La Crosse County heroin task force on Thursday.  He says area emergency responders have been using NARCAN to save people from overdoses, including one just this week.
