It was a wild Friday night for the Cashton Girls track and field team. First, the team finished third at the WIAA Division 3 sectional meet in Bangor and qualified four athletes for next weekend s WIAA state track and field meet. After stopping in Sparta to grab a bite to eat, the bus the team was rising in was hit by a drunk driver……………who then drove away from the crash.

The driver of the pickup, 48 year old Daniel Gordon of rural Sparta, failed to stop for a stop sign before driving into the intersection. Gordon, who then drove away, was found a short time later and arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, third offense, and Hit and Run causing injury. Sparta Police tell us that the impact caused one of the school bus passengers to strike their head on a window. The injured student was treated at the scene by EMS.

The accident remains under investigation.
