Register Your Bike and Get a Free Light

La Crosse police were uncomfortable with the idea of giving away free bike lights the whole time.   Not because they don’t want bicycle riders to go without.   It’s just that the big box of bike light sets they got from the county through a grant program came with the understanding that the lights would be handed out to those riding illegally without bike lights.  Kind of like a reward for breaking the law.   La Crosse cops instead will hand out the lights to the first fifty who show up at the PD downtown to register their bikes.  Bike registration is two bucks and is required under city ordinance.
