Lansing Bridge to remain open all summer

The Iowa Department of Transportation said Tuesday afternoon that the Black Hawk Bridge at Lansing will remain open through the summer.
Last month the Iowa DOT said they were planning on keeping the bridge open at least through the July 4 holiday weekend but have now extended it through the rest of the summer.
The current bridge was closed from mid-May through early June after sensors detected movement caused by construction of a new bridge to replace the historic one.
A social media post from the Iowa DOT said they’re looking into options for getting people across the river when the bridge does close.
When the bridge was shut down for an extended period, a ferry service and transport vans were used to ferry people across the river then drive them to designated parking areas.
People who didn’t use the service had to drive to either La Crosse or Prairie du Chien to cross the river between Iowa and Wisconsin.
The project website said the new bridge should open to traffic by the end of 2026.
