Couple saves driver who ended up in the Mississippi

The Winona County Sheriff’s Office is crediting two people with helping save the life of a person who drove into the Mississippi River on Monday.
A post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page tells the story of Brittany and Dustin, who are driving across the country from Massachusetts.
A driver who was having a medical emergency pulled off of I-90 into the Dresbach rest area.
As he did, the sheriff’s office said the driver lost control, went down a steep embankment and into the Mississippi River.
They pair saw it happen.
While Brittany called 911, Dustin went to the vehicle.
He was able to get the door open and get the semi-conscious person out of the vehicle and onto the shore.
The vehicle was completely submerged by the time law enforcement arrived at the rest area.
The driver was taken to a La Crosse hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Without their actions, the post said, the end result would have been a whole lot different.
It concluded with, “We wish them safe travels as they make their way back to Massachusetts, and we want to applaud them for their life saving efforts. THANK YOU!”
