A new development plan near the old Shopko on the north side, tearing down the La Crosse Tribune building and recapping the decision to double the city’s stormwater utility bill.

It’s committee week and Mac Kiel joined La Crosse Talk on Friday to discuss those decisions by the council and more, as the Judiciary & Administration committee meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday and the Finance & Personnel committee meets Thursday.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.

First off, we recapped last month’s council meeting, where a 9-4 decision essentially doubled the stormwater utility, as the city has been hit with multiple storms and flooding this past week.

After that, we discuss how the Bridgeview Plaza development will go through committees. It isn’t on the agenda this week, but was on the Commercial/Multi-Family Design Review committee two weeks ago. This plan is for two, five-story, 100-until apartment complexes with underground parking.

After that, we preview the J&A committee, where a few rezonings are on the agenda — expanding the St. Claire Health Mission, a bakery on Market Street and a north side “pocket park.”

Then we break down the F&P committee, where tearing down the old Tribune building for housing will be debated, as well as the final public comment for consolidation — spending federal funding — which is done every five years.

Also on that agenda, though we didn’t get to them, is a rental agreement plan for homeless housing through a Mayo donation, $115,000 for park security at Burns, Cameron and Riverside, plus a possible closed session on the Town of Campbell incorporation.a
