Budweiser Clydesdales impresses crowd in La Crosse

One of the most iconic and famous advertising symbols in the country made its way down the streets of La Crosse on Saturday afternoon.
Crowds lined 2nd and Front streets watching and taking video and photos as the Budweiser Clydesdales passed by.
The team, based in St. Louis, was here as a part of the Big River Rally at the southside Oktoberfest Grounds.
It’s been about 20 plus years since the Clydesdales made a stop in La Crosse, according to Jared Rickert, GM/EAM of S&S Distributing, so he knew people would turn out but more than he expected.
“There was a great turnout with the crowd on 2nd Street and Front Street. I was very surprised. I knew some people would come out and check it out, want to see the Clydesdales up close in person. La Crosse definitely showed up for this event,” Rickert said.
Rickert described the process of getting a team here as a bit of a lottery.
“You’ve got to have the right event going on, and the right connections and everything, but there’s a lot of work on the front end getting them here, but obviously when you see something like this and the people show up to check them out, that makes it all worth it,” said Rickert.
Ahead of the team, Rickert drove one of S&S’s trucks, which promoted Folds of Honor, an organization that both S&S and Budweiser are partnering in. It provides scholarships to spouses and family members of fallen military or first responders.
Rickert said in the 15 years they’ve been a part of Folds of Honor, more than $33 million was raised to provide over 6,600 scholarships.
