As I See It

Hey honey, it’s raining out. Let’s get the kayaks out and paddle down to the other side of Weigent Park and visit the Johnsons. Remember though, it’s a no wake zone on Cass Street.

Yes, that sounded a little ridiculous. It’s been that kind of a week, though.

I don’t know if I can remember when so many streets flooded out. True, there are always ones that do such as Losey Boulevard or Cass Street around the park. I’ve seen several downtown I never would have thought would pond up like that.

Yes, heavier than normal rains certainly had something to do with it.

I wonder how many cars or trucks got totaled out after getting stuck in the middle of a street that’s turned into a lake?  Or are in repair shops around town getting dried out and fixed.

It could be an expensive lesson for not turning around.

Several comments I saw mentioned that people should make sure their storm drains are cleared out, so they won’t get blocked up with debris. That’s a good idea. So please don’t blow your grass clippings or leaves into the street.

I hope, too, that the extra money that the city is collecting in additional stormwater fees starting in a few days goes towards some bigger pipes to handle bigger rains when they happen.

Otherwise, we’re going to need a bigger boat.
