American Legion Riders leading the tours

One of the organizations people will see at the Big River Rally this coming weekend are the American Legion Riders.

Numbering nearly 70 members, they’re from different legion posts in La Crosse and Monroe counties.

In addition to helping with projects at their home posts, the riders spend their time on the road raising funds for various causes including the Freedom Honor Flight.

At the rally, they’re leading the rides to Lansing, Iowa on Friday night and to Viola and S&S Cycle on Saturday morning.

Before Saturday’s ride, they’re presenting the colors with Horman giving a blessing of the bikes before heading out to Viola.

As an organization, they’re always looking for new members according to Howard Horman, past president and current road captain, and who goes by the name of Cowboy.

“The American Legion Riders do have a booth there from 10-4. So, if you’re interested in signing up, I’ve got two people manning the booth. You can come and fill out an application if you’re a Legion member. If not, we can find you a post and get you an application for that, too,” said Horman.

He also suggests going to the web to find out more about the American Legion Riders.

Besides the Freedom Honor Flight, they also raise funds for Camp American Legion in Northern Wisconsin. It is a place where veterans and their families can go to enjoy the outdoors, connect, and heal.

They also take part each year in the Legacy Run. It collects donations to support the education of children who lost an active-duty parent or one who’s disabled.
