Extremely hot weather is sticking around a little longer in the Coulee Region.

Temperatures are expected to reach into the mid-90s on Sunday in the La Crosse area.

Due to the heat, the National Weather Service in La Crosse issued a Heat Advisory until 7 a.m. Monday morning.

It was originally supposed to end Sunday evening.

The advisory affects portions of northeastern Iowa, southeastern Minnesota, and southwest and west central Wisconsin.

The high temperatures and high humidity are forecast to raise the heat index up to 105. Overnight lows range between 75-80.

At those temperatures, according to Ready Wisconsin, heat cramps or heat exhaustion are likely, with heat stroke possible with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity.

To prevent those types of issues, they recommend drinking plenty of water or fluids, stay in an airconditioned room or building, and stay out of the sun.

Another suggestion is checking up on any friends, neighbors, or family members that may be at risk. They include people over the age of 65, someone who has a chronic medical condition, someone who may have a disability, or children under the age of 5.

Contacting people who live alone or who may not have air conditioning is also recommended.

Providing shelter and water to any animals or pets, too, is critical.
