La Crosse’s Juneteenth celebration this year happens tomorrow at Riverside Park.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved Black people in Texas were freed.

The event in the park begins at noon and goes until 7.

Speaking on our sister station Z-93, Hope Restores Co-founder Shy Jackson said people can come enjoy a fun, family event and celebrate the community.

Activities include music, a fun-fair for the kids with games, and plenty of food to enjoy along with each other’s company, Jackson said.

“It’s a neighborhood party…like come to the cookout, right? Like, come, hang out, let’s have a good time, let’s enjoy one another. Let’s just smile and laugh,” said Jackson.

There’s also a Boots on the Ground dance party and other entertainment at the bandshell.

One of the other events is a historical bus tour through the city hosted by the Enduring Families Project.

They’re also looking for some more volunteer help with the event. Sign up here if you’d like to help.
