Sprinkler system problem leads to water damage throughout Crawford County offices

Extensive water damage from a sprinkler head has led Crawford County to close its administration building in Prairie du Chien, until further notice.

The sheriff’s office says a fire alarm went off at the building early Thursday morning. An inspection found a problem with fire suppression equipment, causing the sprinkler to come on, and spray water for 45 minutes before it was shut off.

Water leaked from the top floor of the three-story building into the basement, causing damage to electrical systems.
