With bridge reopening, ferry service suspended

Now that the Black Hawk Bridge in Lansing, Iowa has reopened to traffic, the Iowa DOT said they’re suspending the ferry service set up to shuttle people across the Mississippi River.

The DOT brought in Maiden Voyage Tours and EARL Public Transit and Running to bring people back and forth between Iowa and Wisconsin.

The ferry service opened on June 4. It carried people from a landing on the Wisconsin side to the Lansing Marina. A shuttle then brought them into either Lansing or De Soto.

One week later, the bridge was cleared for use again by the DOT. It closed May 17 after movement was detected during construction of a new bridge.

Since then, the DOT said ferry traffic has dropped to nearly zero.

So, they made the decision to suspend the service at the end of Friday, June 13.
