St. Junious found guilty in 2019 stabbing death, but acquitted on two lesser charges

Anquin St. Junious has been found guilty of reckless homicide, in the fatal stabbing of another man which occurred in La Crosse six years ago.
A La Crosse County jury reached a verdict on the 2nd degree homicide charge after two hours of deliberations on Tuesday afternoon. St. Junious also was convicted of making threats to injure another person. He was found not guilty on two lesser counts, of strangulation and battery. St. Junious was charged shortly after the January 2nd, 2019 stabbing of Virgil Stewart during an argument inside a taxi van. La Crosse Judge Ramona Gonzalez presided over the two-day trial.

Prosecutors argued that St. Junious had threatened his then-wife, Annette, and had forced her to claim that she had killed Stewart in self-defense. Annette St. Junious testified at the trial on Tuesday, and said that she was telling the truth now, when she had not after the crime. Assistant District Attorney Michael Tobin had argued in court that Stewart had said “he stabbed me,” indicating that his attacker was male.
St. Junious has been taken into custody to await sentencing, which Tobin expects may happen within two or three months.
